A space to facilitate work/life balance

EP Architects were appointed to design a space that accommodates open plan living. The client was mainly concerned with the size of the proposal creating darker areas in the central parts of the house. An open plan design and large roof windows ensure that natural light reaches the deepest areas of the space, creating a light and welcoming environment.

At the survey stage it became apparent that the project would be met with the challenge of building over a public drain with limited access to the side of the house and the boundary. Later into the project a manhole was discovered under the rear built up patio. This required a relocation of the manhole and changes to the foundation design in order to carry out the works in agreement with Southern Water, following a previous negative response.

This large ground-floor overhaul has greatly improved the functionality of the space.

The extension has also allowed for a home office adjacent to this open plan space. This home office can easily be isolated when focus is required or the door can remain open to the new garden room, staying connected with the family space and fostering a work/life balance.

A home office is one of many additions that this project has provided the client with. The family and lounge spaces have been expanded and pushed towards the rear of the house allowing full appreciation of their south-facing garden.

Review

Highly recommended. From initial visit with Daniel, Sharon then completed the bulk of the work. They have been so helpful, walked me through a real unknown process and answered all questions professionally, promptly and with my best interest at the centre of the project. They took my initial crayon drawings and turned them into a beautiful design. I'm so pleased with it and look forward to my finished home. Thank you so much.
