A returning client brought this project to EP Architects, with the aim of rescuing and converting this derelict Grade II listed public house in Chatham.

The timber structure was compromised and the roof was at risk of collapse due to significant rainwater penetration. The interior required extensive repair and restoration works due to 40 years of disuse.

The client wished to convert the building into a HMO with 10 rooms and shared kitchen spaces and bathrooms, while preserving the character of the building.

The proposal was originally refused by Medway Council. EP Architects Ltd. together with Peter Court Associates and DGC (Historic Buildings) Consultants Ltd. successfully appealed the decision, securing planning approval.

Following the successful appeal, EP Architects worked closely with the Local Authority and their Conservation Officer to ensure that the heritage asset would be preserved.

Through careful and thoughtful planning, a design was produced that fulfilled the client’s vision of 10 comfortably sized bedrooms and shared living spaces.

Review

I have worked with E P Architects on a number of projects over last 3 years. They are a highly professional and an innovative company offering a full package ranging from design, planning epc calcs... Some of the builds have been very challenging listed buildings, but they rose to the challenge and have helped us over the finish line on every occasion. I would have absolutely no doubt in recommending their services to anyone.
